Introduction of Oriental Carpet
From all the world, the carpet is generally divided into two
major types: the modern machine made carpet and the Oriental
hand woven carpet. The art of handmade carpet weaving attains
the peak from the 16th to 18th century, meanwhile appearing
the very strong region characteristic. Up to the 18th century,
the machine made carpet came into being. A great many carpets
of the same pattern can be made by machine in very short time.
However, machine-made carpets can not compare beauty with
the hand woven carpets; it is not so valuable.
The Oriental carpets can be divided by the produce area into
Chinese carpets ( including Henan silk carpets, Xinjiang carpets
and Tibetan carpets) and Persian carpets. Combined with the
traditional Chinese patterns and Persian patterns after a
long period of time, a modern style of handicraft carpet is
produced; that is Henan silk carpets which have accounted
for half of the global production. Up to now, with a history
of thousands of years and created by several peoples, the
Chinese carpets have a wide and profound influence to Asia
and the whole world for its deep culture , superb manufacture
craft and consummate art attainment.
The Chinese carpets, especially Henan silk carpets, have already
surmounted Iranian and Indian silk carpets not only in quantity
but also in quality. Being subjected to various factors, Iranian
silk carpets could not walk out of the old frame of the lockstep
and encountered disadvantageous export situation. With the
characteristic of copy of Persia and China, Indian carpets
lack its own special style and innovation, so have no larger
improvement up to now.
Henan Silk Carpets
Henan has already become well-known place for silk carpet
production in the world and its production accounts for 80%
of the world annually, and exceeds on the quality Iran known
as the carpet king's title of world. The patterns of Henan
carpet amounts to more than 450 kinds. In according to the
composition, vein and color it holds five kinds of styles:
Persia type, Beijing type, art type, colorful type, plain
and ancient type. With the numerous patterns, special style
and well chosen material, the quality of Henan carpet is tight
and resilient, having clear vein and innovational designs,
which results in a deeply welcome by the clients home and
abroad.
Xinjiang carpets
The raw material of Xinjiang carpet is HeTian wool. This kind
of wool is thick but not adhensive, tough and resilient but
rich in flexibility, having good luster. The pattern and colors
of Xinjiang carpet have fresh and clear folk characteristics
and heavy local colors. Its main pattern is using many layer
frames, filled with various vein; the structure is strict
but balanced, brisk and lifelike. As for the color, most is
the appositions of the same colors or the contrast, well showing
the character of various color in the contrast.
Tibetan Carpets
The wool of Tibet is thick and hard but flexible, fit for
making the carpet very much. The most well-known Tibetan carpet
is Jiangzhi carpet which already has the history of more than
600 years. Jiangzhi carpet is close knitted and durable, the
veins full of folk tradition and the color is fresh and brilliant.
Jiangzhi carpet is also called Jiangzhi Ka mat, of which,
the area of more than 18 square foots, being generally called
the carpet; those smaller be called Ka mat. Jiangzahi carpets
come from GaXi of GangBa county and later spread to the whole
area from Jiangzhi.
Persian Carpets
Persian carpets emphasizes hand weaving. It is said that to
weave a piece of Persian carpet, the artisan must start learning
at the age of seven or eight and grasp the skill until the
marriage age. According to the numbers of knots per square
feet and the specifications, it usually takes 14 to18 months
to finish a piece of Persian carpet.
